article_barton Not too long ago, I heard a quote attributed to Carl Sagan about how as humans, we seem to have this need to attach a significance to everything that happens in our lives. The wonderful thing about Americana is that musicians take these insignificant moments of our lives, weave them together, and before long you have the melody of a lifetime. Described as “modern retro-billy,” The Serenaders exemplify Americana. They shine a light on these insignificant moments, and reveal glimpses of the gears that make our world go around.

On October 6, 2011, we journied to Georgia Theatere in Athens Georgia to catch the experience in Ghostland Observatory. It was a wonderful night with a building anxious, anticipation of what was in store. A new venue, a new hope, and a most powerful new thrill were all delivered in ways, never perceived, in anyones raw imagination. Yet, we are the ones who entered Ghostland Observatory.

Heavy Mojo in Dirty Hollywood

On Thursday Sept 15th, Atlanta’s Dirty Boy Social Club hosted the 5th concert in their Dirty Hollywood series. The emcees promised a “spectacular” line-up and indeed it was.
Nutbush, W.I.C. http://www.reverbnation.com/wic, and Grand Prize Winners from Last Year, took us on a joy-ride with no seatbelts and no brakes, slamming us right into acid hip-hop powerhouse Heavy Mojo, who closed the show in their typical fashion: off. the. chain.

So we were out and about in the midst of Festival Weekend and caught Dragon*Con. This was the 25th aniversary of the convention and as always hosted a forum for all alum in the form of literature, art, film, and music. Not to mention the active members and participants that complete the convention, while bringing a festival and a city to life.

Vampires At Sea JoyScout

On Friday, February 17^th, I went to see the Atlanta-based singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist collective, Joy Scout, perform at Eddie’s Attic. Emily Kate Boyd and Nicki Thrailkill, the heart of Joy Scout, were missing third member Jesse Tyler, but were joined by long time collaborators Will Boos on ukulele, David Stephens on banjo, Paul Warner on lap steel, as well as Will Robertson on bass, who also produced their new album: Vampires at Sea.
