Fili ProfileSo a mellow bustle is about the packed, energized room, when we have the pleasant opportunity to meet Spines followed by And That Is Why. A unique transition between the two bands, nonetheless both delivering with good music and good times.

Spines are a 4 piece quartet that consist of drums, bass, guitar, and keyboards. Although they play with a cohesiveness and confidence of a band that has been playing together for many years, they've only been together since November of 2010. Their music is airy and etheral with solid foundation. Always moving and changing like a ride through space allowing the listener to drift away into galaxy's and universes never seen. They carry a keen creativity with playing ability to match, dropping unique synchopation and meter changes with the rhythm being followed solidly. The vocals have a higher toned warmth that drifts in and out of the guitars rhythms and melodies. The bass and drums deliver with a pocket never leaving each other, but always providing smart rhythm and tonal movements. For so many complexities to be found in Spines music, it is unique to find how easy this music is to listen too and how well crafted it truly is.

We are then led to And That Is Why a supersonic charged punk trio, on their first outing. The transition from the etheral to the speedy quick fun pace of And That Is Why seemed like a better matched change that anyone could imagine. The crowd instantly gravitated to these guys as if they've known their music for years. The floor crowded, a small pit formed, bodies bumped and a good time was had by all. A throw back of punk being punk with fast driving short songs, making a point and moving on. All three kept good time and the guitar ran solid melodies that had good variation through the songs. The vocals were crisp while the band was pumped which kept the people pumped, keeping everyone so entranced that the chant "Play it again!" was belted out by the room for a band that is out on their first gig. They were awesome and know how to make fun for all!!! Check 'em out if you get a chance!
